Illegals Cost Feds $10 Billion a Year; Amnesty Would NearlyTriple Cost The Center for Studies (CIS) has just released a newreport, "The High Cost of Cheap Labor: Illegal andthe Federal Budget." The report estimates that households headedby illegal aliens used $10 billion more in government servicesthan they paid in taxes in 2002. C-SPAN covered the release ofthe new CIS report last week, but it has not re-aired thecoverage since then. WASHINGTON (August 25, 2004) — A new study from the Center forImmigration Studies is one of the first to estimate the impactof illegal on the federal budget. Based on CensusBureau data, the study
estimates that households headed byillegal aliens used $10 billion more in government services thanthey paid in taxes in 2002. These figures are only for thefederal government; costs at the state and local level are alsolikely to be significant. The study also finds that if illegalswere given amnesty, the fiscal deficit at the federal levelwould grow to nearly $29 billion.
